Town

Town is the designation given to the downtown shopping and dining district and the surrounding residential areas. For most of this area, your Nantucket Jeep can stay parked at home as you leisurely meander to dining, shopping, museums, Yacht Clubs and more. All ferry boats dock in Town and it's an easy to location to grab a taxi or rideshare from or to. Homes here are, for the most part, close together. The majority of homes have some historic significance and offer some beautiful hidden gardens. Even though these properties are tight together, you will be surprised to find some of the most lush and surprisingly private yards within. And not enough can be said about the ease of access to all the summer fun of downtown.

• All the most wonderful restaurants you could ask for reside in the downtown district. From sandwiches and grab and go to 5-star fine dining, Town is your oyster…or lobster…or steak…or scallops. Whatever you are in the mood for!
• With everything from T-shirt shops to designer clothing to home goods to souvenirs, shopping in downtown can be whatever you make of it.
• The Nantucket Whaling Museum is a wonderful place to visit and learn about Nantucket's whaling years as well as the island's history in general. Their exhibits change annually so there will always be something new to see.
• A summer evening on Nantucket is never complete without ice cream! There are several spots to check out including The Juicebar, Jack and Charlies, and The Counter at Nantucket Pharmacy featuring Island Kitchen ice cream.
• The Nantucket Boat Basin is a great place to stroll the docks and check out all the yachts and boats in the harbor. You will see some of the most unique sea-going vessels in the world and enjoy the laid back atmosphere.
• Nantucket and Great Harbot Yacht Clubs are both located in town and are favorite spots for members and their guests for boating, sailing, tennis (GHYC tennis is out of town,) and socializing.
• There are a plethora of historical sites to check out in the Town area. From the Oldest House, to Greater Light, to the Hadwen House and more, there will be something for everyone. Check out the Nantucket Historical Association website for hours and admission information.
