The Massachusetts Lead Paint Law protects a child's right to a lead-safe home. Homes built before 1978 may contain lead. The law requires the removal or control of lead paint in houses with children under 6 years old. Owners who rent homes built prior to 1978 are required to comply with certain sections of the law related to inspection of and statement of condition of the property, as well as providing tenants with written notification.
