As we mentioned in our July blog, this summer on Nantucket has been an exceptionally lively season of activities. On any given summer day, you’ll see outdoor dining seats fully committed, shops brimming with patrons, and wind-filled sails stretching across the harbor. The island has definitely been evolving as we gently cruise through the challenges and enjoyments that make the summer of 2021 so unique.
Finding time to recharge has been a focus for many of us. Whether it’s taking long walks across our many conservation trails, a morning golf game with friends or just finding a quiet seaside chair to catch up on your favorite summer books, creating a space to recharge has become a priority for so many of us.
In this month’s post we are focusing on the positive to share some of our favorite ways to take a few quiet moments to safely relax during those fun-filled days of a typical ACK summer.
Here’s our 3 ways to relax and recharge during a very busy summer season on Nantucket:
#1: Yoga with a View.
For many of us, when we think about a relaxing activity, we instinctively think of yoga. And with its mindfulness, blood pressure reducing and strength benefits, it's definitely one that is top on our relax and recharge list. The good news is that there are plenty of outlets for practicing yoga across the island. We recommend checking out Nantucket Yoga with a View. Owner, Bettina Broer, who has been teaching yoga for over 27 years, is offering yoga classes Monday -Saturday, from 7:30 to 8:30am at The Bandstand at Children’s Beach. Cost for adults is $25 per class. No reservation required. Classes are being held through Labor Day. Head to their website to learn more.
#2: Take a Stroll.
If you’re looking for a nice long relaxing walk, then we recommend checking out the Nantucket Land Bank. The Nantucket Land Bank is a conservation program created to acquire, hold and manage land and waterfront access across the island. Its focus is on preserving and protecting the island’s open spaces. The Land Bank offers a unique variety of trails (most are dog friendly!) through parks, farms and coastal preserves. All are perfectly suited to help you explore the island’s natural habitats and breathe in its peaceful serenity. While you’re out there, make sure to plan for a picnic or watch the sunset! You can view their interactive map before you head out.
#3: Get lost in a great movie.
One of our favorite things to do on Nantucket is to visit the drive-in movies at Dreamland. According to their website, Dreamland’s mission “is to build community on Nantucket year-round by bringing people together to share experiences through film, art, culture, and learning.” We’re all onboard with that!
Losing touch with the cinema is definitely one of the many negative outcomes of the pandemic. So naturally, most of us have forgotten how therapeutic it is to lose yourself in a classic film or experience an incredible belly laugh during a beloved comedy. Well, the team at Dreamland have lined up all the favorites for you to enjoy outdoors. From Godspell and a Star is Born to Gladiator and The Perfect Storm, there’s definitely something for everyone at Dreamland. Learn more and check out their schedule to make your plans today!
