For most Nantucket residents and the island’s most loyal visitors, next to the Daffodil Festival, the Christmas Stroll tops the list of the one event we missed the most in 2020. With the announcement of its return in 2021 came cheers of joy across the Island Properties office as we reflected on the 4 Reasons Why We Love the Christmas Stroll.
From the perfectly adorned trees and shops surrounding the bustle of carolers along Main Street to the big man himself (yes, Santa is back!) The Christmas Stroll is more than just a time honored tradition on Nantucket, it is the culmination of a year full of experiences and memories that have connected us to one another. A time to celebrate the island we love so much and its adoring and compassionate community.
In its 47th year, The Christmas Stroll, sponsored by the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, returns December 3-5, with all the lights, laughter and healthy competition you can expect from the widely recognized event. With visitors coming from across the country just to belt out a holiday tune, it’s no surprise that Nantucket found a spot on the best Christmas towns in America from publications like Country Living and Pure Wow.
With so many things to do and reasons to love The Christmas Stroll, we narrowed it down to our top 4 reasons why:
#1: Storefront and tree decorating contest.
Hands Down our favorite part of Stroll. And this year is especially important as we look for ways to support our local restaurants and businesses. The “People’s Choice Award” where you can vote for your favorite storefront, takes place 10am-1:30pm on Saturday, 12/4. Head here for a full list of businesses and organizations participating in the contest. You can pick up your ballot at the Chamber Information Table in Santa’s Village.
#2: Shop Santa’s Village Christmas Marketplace.
The Christmas Stroll’s Santa’s Village Marketplace was made for Christmas list shopping. Plan to leave with every box on your list checked, because with over 30 stalls covering handcrafted pieces to delicious treats, this year you’ll be everyone’s favorite gift giver! Santa’s Village will also feature many island non-profits so you can give the gift of good this year. Santa’s Village is open from 10am-3pm at the bottom of Main Street in the Stop & Shop parking lot on Saturday, 12/4.
#3: Festival of Trees.
The Nantucket Whaling Museum is a special place to visit, but during the holiday season it is transformed into a winter wonderland with the annual Festival of Trees! Community-crafted trees fashioned by local businesses, nonprofits, artists and children adorn the halls with both traditional and whimsical designs. Trees are on display from December 3rd-31st 10am -4pm. Visit NHA.org for ticket information.
#4: Caroling.
And no “Best of Stroll” list would be complete without the famous, sought-after and endorphin churning Christmas Stroll carolers! Sing along with the incredible Victorian Carolers on the steps of the Pacific National Bank. Taking place on 12/4 from 4:30-5pm. Carolers can also be seen walking along Main Street throughout the day.
