It’s the time of the year when we all reflect on the spirit of the holidays. A season of giving back to those in our community that need our support. And this is especially true for the many incredible organizations across our island that work diligently year-round to provide much needed assistance, programming and resources.
This December, through “A Season of Giving”, we’ve set our focus on the non-profits that make Nantucket stronger, better connected and more inclusive of all. And our goal is simple: to bring awareness of organizations that give their hearts to our community all year round.? From leadership growth opportunities for our youth to preserving our natural habitat, there are so many reasons and ways to give back this holiday season.
So, here are 4 Nantucket non-profits that we’re spotlighting this holiday season.
We’re so impressed by the amazing team at the Harvey Foundation because of the work they do to help foster educational, athletic and leadership growth opportunities. Founded in 2015, the Harvey Foundation offers events year-round including their “Run for Robin”, Golf Tournament and Pen Pal Program. All events are geared to meet the needs of Nantucket residents of all age groups. Their overall mission is “to empower and assist the pathfinders of education, athletics and community service.” Learn more about the Harvey Foundation here.
?For over 30 years the Egan Maritime Institute has made it its mission to provide opportunities to inspire others to support the preservation of “Nantucket's maritime culture and seafaring legacy.” Their team is actively focused on the island's invaluable and incomparable land and sea and its important preservation. Through programs and events, including no-cost educational programs for the island’s youth, the institute continues its goal to preserve and protect Nantucket’s natural habitat.? Living on an island, we know how critical access to medical transport can be. But, unfortunately, for many who don’t have insurance, this service can be costly and sometimes, financially out of reach. As a non-profit organization, Boston MedFlight was created 35 years ago to alleviate the financial burden for those in need of medical air or ground transportation with little or no medical insurance. The Boston MedFlight team cares for over 4,700 patients a year. And are committed to excellence in patient care, working in conjunction with first responders, hospitals and academic centers to operate “mobile ICUs."
