As another beautiful summer winds down on Nantucket, new memories continue to remind us why our beautiful island is so adored by so many. Condé Nast Traveler recently voted Nantucket as one of the most beautiful towns in America (the only Massachusetts town to make the list!) describing it as the “quintessential summer getaway.” With its gorgeous beaches, scenic park lands, and historic downtown filled with sought after shopping and dining options, Nantucket’s mighty 14 miles certainly offers something for everyone.
But what if you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to your Nantucket summer?
We have a few suggestions left to try (or do one last time). They just might be the perfect end to your summer 2021 highlight reel.
#1: Book a sunset cruise.
Get out on the water while the weather is still warm to enjoy Nantucket's scenic harbor and shorelines. We recommend booking a sunset cruise with Shearwater Excursions. The team at Shearwater offers nightly cruises through the harbor and channel. You can purchase tickets at a per person rate. Or you can book a private trip if you’re planning to spend time with a larger group. Plan on picking up dinner from your favorite Nantucket restaurant. Grab some beverages, some family or friends and get ready to create a memory that will last a lifetime.
#2: Explore the island’s natural habitats.
With so much natural beauty across the island, some of which can only be seen in the warmer months, we suggest a visit to the Nantucket Field Station. Located off Polpis Road, just a little past the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum, the Field Station is 110 acre property consisting of “pristine salt marsh, beautiful beach, approximately 1 mile of walking trails and great views of Coatue across the harbor.” This unique partnership and agreement between the Nantucket Conservation Foundation and the University of Massachusetts Boston, offers visitors a closer look at the island’s diverse ecosystem.
#3: Visit a Farmers Market.
Farmer’s Markets are truly summer’s best gift. Especially if you’re on Nantucket. Do not let the summer pass you by without checking out Sustainable Nantucket’s weekly Farmer’s Market. The market includes over 30 local farmers and artisans offering produce grown and unique art created on Nantucket by its residents. You can find the market on Upper Cambridge Street every Saturday from 8:30am-12:30pm.
