Now in its 8th year, the
Nantucket Garden Festival is one of Nantucket's most beloved annual events. Created by former Nantucket Lighthouse School Chair of the Board Connie Umberger, the festival is a major fundraiser for the
Nantucket Lighthouse School. This year's festival takes place July 19 through July 21 and is filled with events to delight gardeners and those who love how Nantucket's flowers glow under the summer sun.
If your schedule puts you on Nantucket during the festival, you'll want to know about the
festival schedule and
how to register. Participants may register for individual or multiple events.
Workshops, Walking Tours, and a Garden Soirée
From workshops to walking tours to local cuisine served in an exquisite garden setting, this year's festival will charm the eye, ear, and palate. Festival highlights include a vegetable gardening workshop with Russell Morash, creator of PBS's award-winning "Victory Garden" series, walking tours through the gardens of 'Sconset and Brant Point, a wildflower walk at the Linda Loring Nature Foundation, and a garden design lecture by master garden designer Gordon Hayward.
The festival begins with the opening night
Garden Soirée on July 20 from 6 to 9 PM in the historic Middle Brick gardens. The event features keynote speaker Gordon Hayward, a creative local menu, live music, an art show, and a silent auction.
Fairy Gardens and Events for Children
Events especially for children include a fairy garden contest and building workshop—tiny gardens children create with natural materials provided at the workshops—and the Little Diggers workshop where children ages 2 to 5 can plant their own take-home edible gardens. The festival ends with a parent-child garden tea party and scavenger hunt at the Nantucket Lighthouse School.
