Here's a brand-new reason to visit Nantucket, that "elbow of sand, all beach, without a background” as Herman Melville called it, where 80 miles of shoreline, centuries-old sea captain mansions, cocktail bars, and five-star hotels create a world apart from the rest of the country.
Just as the off-islanders said, "So long, summer" and headed back to Boston and New York,
Conde Naste Traveler named Nantucket’s The Proprietors Bar & Table one of the world’s best restaurants. That’s not a shooting star trailing in the sky above Surfside Beach; it’s the Michelin star that’s guaranteed to be in
Proprietors future.

The restaurant closes January 1 and reopens at the beginning of April, so now is the time to book a reservation.
Located at 9 India Street, The Proprietors Bar & Table, named for the colonists who were the first landowners on Nantucket, is a culinary celebration of the "well-traveled palate,” a place where local seafood is prepared with Korean and Middle Eastern influences.
Chef Michael LaScola combines international flavors with ingredients locally sourced and harvested from small Nantucket and New England farms, creating world-class entrees and eclectic shared plates.
If bold adventurousness is baked into the island’s culture—and the brotherhood of seafarers at the heart of Nantucket’s 19th whaling industry were certainly bold—Chef LaScola brings the same adventurous spirit to the seasonal menu at Proprietors.
On Sunday October 16, The Proprietors Bar & Table is teaming up with chefs at the
American Seasons restaurant for
Hog’toberfest, a celebration of small farm food. Hog’toberfest is a nose-to-tail pig roast, featuring hand-raised, heritage breed Mangalista-Berkshire pigs. The whole hog dinner starts at 6:30 PM and includes course pairings of wine and beer.
