On Thanksgiving Day November 24, hundreds of brave souls will face the cold to take part in the 15th annual Nantucket
Atheneum Cold Turkey Plunge. This time-honored tradition features swimmers who are willing to take a quick dip in the chilly waters of the Atlantic Ocean on Children’s Beach in Nantucket.
The
Cold Turkey Plunge is a highlight of Thanksgiving weekend on Nantucket. This year the event will raise funds for the Atheneum's
Weezie Library for Children. The event takes place at 10 AM on Thanksgiving Day, so no worries about missing out on turkey and all the trimmings. All ages are welcome to participate with children under the age of 12 paying a discounted registration fee.
Teams and individuals who
register online can create a fundraising page to collect donations. The event is held rain or shine and plungers are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before swim time to receive a wristband and a T-shirt while supplies last. Line up your towel holders, but keep in mind that only one towel holder per registrant is permitted in the swim area once the plunge begins.
Warm up afterwards with a complimentary cup of hot chocolate or coffee generously provided through local Nantucket businesses. There will also be mouth-watering pastries on hand to help plungers refuel.
Don’t want to wait in a long line to register the day of the event? Register online or the day before on November
23 between 10 AM and 2 PM at the Nantucket
Atheneum on 1 India Street. All proceeds collected will go toward the support and funding of the Nantucket
Atheneum Weezie Library for Children.
Year-round community events are a hallmark of island life on Nantucket.
