NANTUCKET VACATION RENTALS

Nantucket has a time-honored tradition of summer vacation rentals.  As with every summer vacation community, there are whole industries that work together as a well-oiled machine to make your stay the best it can be.  Most homes are rented Saturday to Saturday with a few choosing Friday or Sunday turnovers.  That means that there are many different caretakers, cleaners, repair people, and real estate agents working together to check out guests in the morning, prepare the home, and check in new guests in the afternoon.  With this understanding, we share with you some of our best advice for checking in and out of your vacation rental.

Check-In

• Check-in times vary by home, but the majority welcome guests between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.  Consult your lease and/or your agent for the exact time of your rental.
• Early check-ins or drop off of baggage prior to your check-in time may not be available due to the schedules of the cleaners and caretakers preparing the turnover.  Please check with your agent to inquire.  Baggage storage service is available for a fee at the downtown Candle Street Valet lot if you want to explore the island before your check-in time.
• Your agent will be in touch prior to your arrival date with information on how to get into the house, what you can expect once you arrive, and any other special instructions for your check-in.
• On the day of your check-in, your agent will do a walkthrough of the home before you arrive to confirm the home is ready for you.
• Upon arrival should you find anything unsatisfactory, please contact your agent as soon as possible so they can facilitate a resolution.

Check-Out

• Check-out times vary by home, but the majority have departure times between 9:00 am and 10:00 am.  Consult your lease and/or your agent for the exact time of your departure.
• Late check-outs and baggage storage are rarely available at Nantucket vacation rentals.  The cleaners and caretakers already scheduled to arrive shortly after your departure.  If you would like to enjoy the island for a bit longer after your check-out, baggage storage is available for a fee at the downtown Candle Street Valet lot.
• The day before check-out your agent will send you a message with instructions on where to leave/drop off keys and some other tips such as:
  • Launder all beach towels on your last evening
  • Close all doors & windows
  • Put all bed sheets and linens in the laundry area, complete as many loads as possible before departure
  • Load and start the dishwasher with the final load of dishes before leaving
  • Clean out the refrigerator of all items
  • Sort all rubbish & recyclables according to Town of Nantucket guidelines
  • Text your broker when you are leaving so they can alert the cleaner and/or caretaker and do their walk-through

Should you have any challenges during your stay, please contact your agent to help resolve them.  The name and phone number of your caretaker will also be available at the home for easy access in case of issues needing immediate attention such as a burst pipe or other maintenance emergencies.  Should you smell gas, if there is a medical emergency or other life-threatening situation, please call 911.
