What with the seaside garden parties and the-oyster-and champagne events that rival parties out of Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby, it’s easy to forget that Nantucket is a kid-friendly place, too. With its beaches, nature trails, and epic whaling history, the far-away island off the coast of Massachusetts is worthy of story time . . . or a sea chantey. The Sea Grille

Located just outside Town, The Sea Grille has been a Nantucket favorite for over 20 years. Open year round, "The Grille” specializes in local and regional seafood including day-boat cod, lobster bisque, and quahog chowder, as well as pastas and breads. The Sea Grille doesn’t have the white linen formality of a haute cuisine restaurant, nor does it have the picnic table and red-and-white checkered tablecloth ambiance of a traditional fish shack.

Bartlett’s Farm

Bartlett’s is the oldest and largest family-run farm on Nantucket. Part artisan bistro, part Whole-Foods-like market, Bartlett’s specializes in prepared entrees and sides, from made-to-order sandwiches and paninis to hot soups and salads, all of which are perfect when you’re on the go with the family. In addition, Bartlett’s also offers little kids’ cooking classes and arts and crafts workshops. Open year round, Bartlett's is also a good source for kid-approved beach gear from boogie boards to sand buckets.

The Jetties Beach Bar and Restaurant

Casual and low-key, The Jetties is a kid-friendly hot spot during the summer season. With a kid’s menu that features chicken fingers, hot dogs, fried mac and cheese, and slushies, this “come as you are” restaurant is perfect for the little ones. And don’t worry, The Jetties serves up plenty of old-school New England classic, too, such as clam chowder and lobster rolls. Open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, The Jetties Beach Bar and Restaurant has the word "beach" in it for a good reason—it's a two-minute walk from Jetties Beach, a family favorite for its gentle surf, warm water, and seashells. Skip packing the beach toys and pick them up at their beach shop instead.
